Youth Diversion Projects are funded by the Department of Justice and
the European Social Fund, in partnership with An Garda Siochana.?A
recent investment in the Youth Justice Strategy **Apply on the
website** has allowed for expansion of services in East Galway.
Youth Diversion Projects work with young people aged **Apply on the
website** years, mainly referred by the Garda?, to address the issues
of youth crime and anti-social behaviour. YDP?s are tasked with
diverting young people from crime and anti-social behaviour,
supporting young people to remain in or return to education and
increase their employment potential. Programmes are delivered mostly
on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. Workers are expected to
liaise with families, other relevant agencies and attend meetings as
appropriate. In addition, the Project Coordinator works to ensure
compliance with the requirements of the funder and supervise staff and
budgets. All Workers are expected to maintain required project
documentation and produce reports that comply with the policies and
procedures of Youth Work Ireland, Galway, and the Operational
Guidelines for Youth Diversion Projects.
As is expected within the Youth Work Sector direct work with young
people takes place, in the main, out-of-school hours, in the evenings
with some weekend work so staff are expected to be flexible in their
working arrangements to meet the needs.
It is expected that applicants will have a recognised 3rd level
qualification (Level 7 or above) in youth work or community work,
youth justice, social care, counselling, or another appropriate field
as well as having at least 2 years? experience of working with teens
in a community setting. Skills in one-to-one work, group work and case
management would be an advantage for all positions. Additionally,
given the significant administrative demands of the coordinator role,
excellent IT skills and report writing experience are needed, as well
as supervision experience, for that post. Clean driving licences and
access to a vehicle for work is necessary for all the above posts.
Candidates will be subject to interview, reference check, Garda
vetting and medical prior to contracts being offered. The City of
Dublin Youth Service Board Youth Work Scales (**Apply on the
